Throughout, July 23 - 24 , in Lviv, work continued on the overhaul of the tram track at the intersection of Pidvalna-Ruska streets. Therefore, 50 meters of new track have been laid, which will help improve the quality of passenger services.
When did the work start and why?
On July 23, 2020, at 10:00 pm, Lvivelectrotrans began overhauling the track. It was planned to replace extremely complex elements: the intersection and two curves, which have long exhausted their life and led to cases of derailment of the tram car, caused noise and vibration while moving.
At what time was the work planned to be completed?
Work on the replacement of the tram track was planned to be completed by 5 am on July 24, 2020, after which the contractor had to perform paving by 08:00. However, in the process of installation, there were unpredictable difficulties associated with the base on which the rail is mounted, namely in its geometry. To solve the problem, other special equipment was involved, which caused delays in the movement of tram routes - №1, 2, 7 and 9.
Why were the repair works carried out on weekdays?
In connection with the refusal of the contractor to carry out work on waving the curve of the track and crossing on the day off, namely on Saturday, repair works were performed from Thursday Friday.
When did the work end?
On Friday, July 24, work was completed and traffic resumed at 2 p.m.
What has changed?
As of now, the works have been completed, 50 meters of a new tram track have been laid, which immediately affected the quality of life of residents and guests of the city. There is no more vibration at the joints of the rails and the noise of the wheels from the worn track. Therefore, trams run on the usual route, without the risk of derailment.
Despite the funding problems and the situation with the pandemic, Lvivelectrotrans is carrying out all the planned works for this year on the overhaul of the track and catenary according to the schedule. We also apologize for the inconvenience!
